Weekly Recap: 4/5/21

By Anna Levi '24 and Ellie Miller '24

Welcome back to the sixth Weekly Recap! We hope everyone had a safe, fun, and restful break, and that you have had a great first week back! A lot has happened since our last recap, so let’s get right into it.

Capitol Attack:

First, we will be discussing an intense topic: another Capitol attack. This time, the attacker ran over and murdered a Capitol officer. The murderer was then shot after having lunged at an officer with a knife.

Pfzier Vaccine Approved for 12-15 year olds:

In incredibly exciting news for our middle grade and 9th and 10th grade students, the Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine has been approved for twelve to fifteen-year-olds! Not only has it been approved, but it has an 100% efficacy rate. That means that, in a trial with 2,000 participants ages twelve to fifteen, there were no reported cases of Covid-19 for those who received the vaccine, compared to 14 cases of Covid-19 in those who were given the placebo. We’ll make sure to update everyone as soon as the vaccine has been approved by the FDA and vaccination appointments open up for twelve to fifteen-year-olds. For now, only sixteen-year-olds and up are eligible, so make your appointments using the link below!

Asynchronous Day:

This Friday, NEST+m had another asynchronous day. This was a day for students to catch up on work, and listen to guest speakers talk about climate change. Always fun to talk about all the ways we are killing animals, the planet, and potentially our descendants. In all seriousness, it was a really interesting and informative day, where we also got to learn more about some of the spring holidays different religions celebrate.

That’s all for this week! Stay tuned for next week’s recap, and as always, here’s to hoping next week is a little more normal. (Whatever that means anymore.)
