Welcome back to the weekly recap, a place where we let you know about the past week in school news, national news, and entertainment.
Firstly, congratulations! We’ve survived the fourth marking period! Only one more marking period to go! Kind of bittersweet, right? Just remember during this final marking period that it is our last push until summer, and then probably, a much more normal year, to which we can all look forward.
In tragic news, on Sunday, April 11th, Daunte Wright was shot and killed by police officer Kim Potter at a traffic light stop. This has weighed on all our hearts this week, and to anyone out there who may need to hear it, we stand with you. Please click the link below to honor Daunte Wright’s memory by making change:
On Thursday, April 15th, the Asian Culture Club held a meeting with the goal of connecting the AAPI (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) community at NEST+m. With racist attacks targeting Asian Americans on the rise, solidarity is needed like never before. Unfortunately, anti-Asian sentiments occurred even during a meeting directly trying to counter them. We don’t have much information about the awful incident and who committed it, however, we stand with the entire NEST+m AAPI community but also acknowledge that simple verbal support isn’t enough. Seeing as this is not the first incident of racist hate-speech targeting town halls and what are supposed to be safe spaces, it’s safe to say that fundamental change is necessary. For all of us.
To everyone affected by this past week’s events, we are here for you, and we stand in solidarity with you.
As always, stay tuned for the next weekly recap, but until then, feel free to submit your experiences and stories to the Eagle’s website or email. We can all learn from each other, so let’s make that possible.
