It seems like everyone knows a fan of Grey's Anatomy. It's no secret this show is extremely popular. If it weren't for people talking about this show on every corner of the internet, then the seventeen seasons might give its success away. As the longest-running American medical drama, it only seems to gather more fans. But if you haven't already taken on this emotional rollercoaster of a show, I'm giving you ten spoiler-free reasons why you should.
Reason 1: The characters. Often we struggle to find characters we can relate with on TV. Grey Anatomy has so many characters over the years, each with their own story to tell. We see characters who lost parents when they were young, others who come from broken homes, and people who come from happy families. We see characters struggle with mental illness and discover their sexualities. We see characters of different races, genders, and sexual orientations.
Reason 2: For eleven seasons, Grey's Anatomy had Sara Ramirez portraying Callie Torres. Callie is the longest-running LGBTQ+ character to appear on television. She is one of the characters that display the inclusivity of this show.
Reason 3: The relationships on the show, whether they be romantic or platonic, are wonderful to watch develop. Everyone has such a wonderful bond. The characters' friendships are amazing, and they are only pushed closer to perfection by…
Reason 4: … the actors. Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Chandra Wilson, and Sandra Oh are highlights of the iconic cast. Each of them brings their character alive by giving them a relatable persona.
Reason 5: Grey's Anatomy brings awareness to tough issues. They have done episodes on sexual assault, school shootings, police brutality, and problems with the healthcare system. Each issue was handled delicately and brought many viewers to tears. These are real issues the show addresses in such a beautiful and thought-provoking way.
Reason 6: Representation of mental illness. It needs to be made clear just how much this show has done to spread awareness of mental illness and show people that it can be treated. OCD, PTSD, addiction, and depression are only some of the mental illnesses that Grey's Anatomy brings awareness to. It is important for people to see proper representation of mental illness on TV. Grey's Anatomy does that.
Reason 7: We get an intriguing glance into the medical world. After watching the show, you will either be paranoid about stepping foot in a hospital or be trusting of every doctor you meet. Regardless, it gives us a look at how things operate, how doctors work together, medical research, and more.
Reason 8: The soundtrack. The point of a soundtrack is to heighten emotion during a scene, and the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack certainly does this. While binging this show, it's interesting to see the music change. Watching it as I grew up, I began to recognize more and more songs. Get ready to have a new playlist to cry to.
Reason 9: Seventeen seasons might seem like a lot, even though only sixteen are available on Netflix right now (season seventeen is currently airing on ABC). However, how often are you bored? This year has left us inside without much to do. Grey's Anatomy has plenty of seasons to binge, so it will fill a lot of your time.
Reason 10: The one-liners! The characters are competitive with one another, so they always have hilarious comebacks ready. And if not, then they have a terrible insult. Either way, it's funny!
That's ten reasons you should watch Grey's Anatomy! And clear your schedule, because you won't want to do anything else.
